Research Outline

With the westernization of life style and lack of sports, more and more people are becoming metabolic syndrome-related patients, suffering from obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. This has turn into a social problem not only in Japan but also around the world. Arteriosclerotic diseases such as myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction are one of the main causes of death in modern society; it is of great social significance to deal with this problem by developing advanced medical technology. My research mainly focuses on the mechanism of atherosclerosis development induced by insulin resistance and endoplasmic stress on the basis of obesity. Moreover, I also participate other research projects conducted in our lab such as the relationship between glucose metabolism, energy metabolism and inter-organ network. Recently, my research has found that endoplasmic reticulum stress-related CHOP and WFS1 play important role in glucose metabolism and atherosclerosis. With further studies using CHOP and WFS1 knockout mice, the research could provide strategies to develop effective therapeutic methods in diabetics and atherosclerosis treatment.
