Research Outline

Water has been discovered on the Moon by remote sensing spacecraft, but the origin cannot be well understood by conventional theories of the solar wind and comet/asteroid collisions. In this study, we first identified the mantle-originated water from the lunar meteorites using infrared spectroscopy, and found the lunar fluid-originated minerals by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. Our new findings also revealed that the lunar plutonism plays a role in significant water supply sources from the mantle to the surface.
