AA student working

Model Case 2: Organic Biology
  • Professor: Prof. Yuta KUDO
  • Field of Research: Life and Environments
  • Research Topic: Natural toxins, Microbial metabolites

Can you describe the research you are doing now?

It is mainly the production, identification, and screening of new compounds in new toxins related to toxic animals.

What role do AA students play in this research?

They are responsible for preparing analytical samples, including the extraction and purification of secondary metabolites. Additionally, they handle a wide range of tasks, such as microbial culture and bioinformatics analysis.

Can you tell me about any progress or achievements of research with AA students?

We analyzed 30 bacteria species in half a year. One student is good at programming, so she was asked to analyze 700 data samples using software. The student made an automation analysis code with basic Python skills which helped the professor a lot.

Are there any specific values you emphasize to find the right person for the job?

The key factors are whether the candidate can consistently secure stable working hours, has an interest in research, and possesses basic communication skills. Knowledge and skills can be acquired after being hired. Although this is positioned as a research work experience, it is still a "job" that involves a salary, so we are looking to hire individuals who can engage in research seriously.
