FRIS CoRE Acheivements in FY2023

FRIS CoRE, launched in the fiscal year 2020, has been operational for nearly three years by the end of fiscal year 2023. Since its proposal as a support measure to facilitate the smooth initiation of research for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) at FRIS of Tohoku University and to promote interdisciplinary research projects among PIs from different fields, approximately 70% of the initial plan has been completed. We also deeply appreciate the donations totaling ¥207,582 (from nine individuals and one organization) received so far for the FRIS Fund for Early Career Independent Researchers established to support FRIS CoRE.

To date, FRIS CoRE has been utilized by a total of 21 ECRs, including many project leaders of JSPS Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research(B), as well as recipients of FOREST, PRESTO, AMED, and LEADER grants, showing its contribution to the successful acquisition of large research grants targeting young researchers. Additionally, these studies have resulted in the publication of 35 papers (including two cover articles and five joint research papers between PIs in different fields) and the announcement of two patents.

Moving forward, we will continue our efforts to enhance the research environment and ensure smooth operation of FRIS CoRE. We aim for this initiative to be recognized widely as a model case for supporting young researchers in Japan and to achieve an internationally competitive research environment that attracts outstanding researchers from both domestic and international arenas.
